Marks and Spencer Shanghai: Bad Feng Shui?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

This is rather an interesting story that shows how Feng Shui can effect a business. It seems that Marks & Spencer decide to move into the mainland Chinese marketplace, and bought land and built a new 40,000 square foot store in Shanghai. But since opening, the store has had a rash of problems, including supply and such, but also the death of a customer (who fell four stories from the atrium to the ground floor) as well as large crowds who didn’t seem inclined to part with a month’s salary for a V-neck shirt.

There are strong whispers by rivals that the store has poor Feng Shui, and that the location itself is poor for various reasons, which explains why this lot (and the one next to it) were left empty in an otherwise booming area of Shanghai.
